Manawatū Community Hub Libraries Te Āhuru Mōwai
Client: Manawatu District Council
Region: Manawatu
Completed Project: June 2024
Int. Workspaces presented a successful tender for the design, supply and manufacturing of all Library shelving and furniture for the new Manawatū Community Hub Libraries’ facility Te Āhuru Mōwai.
The design process began with a collaborative consultation, working closely with the library manager to develop shelving specifications for each collection, finalise a shelving layout, define furniture requirements, select final finishes and design a selection of bespoke shelving and products.
“We had the pleasure of working with Int Workspaces on the furniture and shelving fit-out for our library redevelopment, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. From the very beginning, their team demonstrated professionalism, creativity, and a deep understanding of our needs”
The project included some unique custom pieces, such as the reading tree, custom storage units, reading nooks and shelving solutions.
A key design request was to incorporate a Tree within the children’s area. This was to not only be a visual statement but also multifunctional to serve as a reading space and to house Lego and board book collections within.
The Makerspace area required some custom-designed storage units to store materials and machinery. The design needed to support the ability to service the machines from the back and ensure materials could be stored and then easily accessed for use.
A custom shelving solution for the children’s area was developed into wall shelving cubes and upholstered seating nooks, designed to be integrated around the building’s extensive cross – brace beams.
A Printing kiosk unit was created to neatly house the self- service issue counter, printer, storge printing supplies and a TV, all in one, easily accessible unit.
“These elements not only added to the aesthetic of Manawatū Community Hub Libraries new facility, Te Āhuru Mōwai but also created engaging spaces that our visitors absolutely love.”
We worked with our New Zealand suppliers to provide a range of products which include modular soft seating, fixed height working tables, meeting tables with integrated technology and conference furniture.
“The furniture they provided for the various spaces, including meeting rooms, break out spaces, and the reception counter, was top-notch. It perfectly balanced functionality with style, meeting the diverse requirements of our community. Each piece was thoughtfully recommended to fit seamlessly into our vision for Te Āhuru Mōwai.”
We worked closely with the client and main contractor as there was still site works being carried out. and completed this project in June 2024.
“What truly set Int Workspaces apart was their exceptional communication and collaboration.”
“Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better partner in this redevelopment. The final result is a beautiful, functional, and culturally rich environment that will serve our community for years to come. We highly recommend Int Workspaces for any fit-out project.” – Adie Johansen, Community Services Manager for Manawatu Community Hub
